Job Description:
· Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
· Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
· Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
· Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
· Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor.
· Knowledge of Day Nurseries Act.
· Knowledge of licensing regulations.
· Establish guidelines for behaviour,.
· Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
· Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
· Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours.
· Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children.
· Help to prepare education plans for children with disabilities.
· Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers.
· Order supplies and equipment.
· Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records.
· Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties.
· Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants.
· Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
· Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts.
· Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors.
· Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
· Day to day communication with parents/ families as well as co-workers.
· Working with preschool aged English language learners to teach them English and provide and easy transition into the English language
Requirements:
-Education: Bachelor's degree in child development or a College diploma or Certificate in Early Childhood Education is required
-Experience: Experience is an asset
-Experience teaching English as a second language to preschool aged language learners is required.
- Experience in education plans for children with disabilities is an asset.
- Valid ECE license is required
- Satisfactory criminal record check is required.
- Well developed interpersonal skills
- Doctor’s letter stating physically and mentally capable of working with children is required
- Valid First Aid certificate is required
Salary: $17.00 to $19.00 hourly, 40.00 Hours per week.
Important Information: Shifts: Monday to Friday 9:30am-6:00pm. 30 minutes break for lunch.
